Young Heritage Apprentice Winner
Congratulations to Birchgrove Comprehensive for their success in the Young Heritage Apprentice in November, a competition that challenged teams of school pupils to create an on-site visitor attraction for Hafod-Morfa copperworks that celebrates Swansea’s history and heritage.
Thanks also to the six other schools who took part, which included
- St Michael’s Llanelli
- Maesydderwen
- Bishop Vaughan
- Pontarddulais
- Cefn Hengoed
- Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr
Their ideas included: a heritage centre; a memorial fountain; a globe to symbolise Swansea’s worldwide links through the copper industry; and a copper boulevard, made of different materials associated with the industry.
One of the team commented “I think it’s brilliant that something is finally happening with the Hafod-Morfa copperworks. So being able to take part was a fantastic experience and winning was another.”
