The Laboratory

This building was originally part of the Morfa Copperworks and access to it was gained via a bridge over the Swansea Canal. It was built during the 1880s on the site of at least two earlier buildings. It was probably used as an Assay Office in which to test the quality of the copper ore coming into the works. Of the surviving buildings on this site this is architecturally the most ornate with many classical features.
